Online Gambling Bill Passes New Jersey Committee Stage
The online gambling legalization bill that was proposed by New Jersey Senator, Ray Lesniak, has been passed by the New Jersey House Regulatory Oversight and Gaming committee. Based on a report from the Associated Press news agency, the House committee gave their approval of the bill with a certain modification made to the law.
The amendment that was made allows New Jersey online gambling operators to take bets made outside of the state, as long as the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement decides it will not breach federal law. Furthermore, it was reported that the tax structures which were proposed differed in the Assembly and Senate version of the bills. As it stands now, no dates have been made for the Senate and the House to vote on the bills. It’s possible that these bills may not be passed until the fall.
In addition, according to NorthJersey.com, other gambling bills have passed the committee stage, such as bills that would legalize simulcast betting on horse races.
