New Jersey Continues Its Attempt to Legalize Online Gambling
Last year, New Jersey was unsuccessful in its attempt to become the first U.S. state to regulate and legalize online gambling after the state’s Governor Chris Christie vetoed the bill that was passed by the state Senate and the Assembly. That said, while New Jersey was not successful in its goal, it has not yet lost the race to become the first state to reach this achievement either.
This year, Senator Ray Lesniak has every intention of using the new U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) policy change on internet gambling to his advantage. Since the DoJ has made it clear that intrastate online casino gambling doesn’t breach the law, Lesniak will do everything he can to have a new bill passed through the legislature and into the hands of the Governor as soon as next week.
However, as it stands now, the bill will likely not be voted on this January 9th, which is the final day of the existing state legislative session.
